Terms of Employment:

11 months/204 days per year. Salary is on the Instructional Support Pay Grade IS5 on the EISD Compensation Plan at an hourly rate of $18.51.

 

This position is grant-funded; therefore, continuation of employment is contingent upon available grant funds.

 

Primary Purpose

Early Head Start (EHS) Home Visitor Teachers are primary educators and case managers for EHS families enrolled in the home-based option. They provide in home instruction through the use of a formal curriculum to parents and children ages six weeks to three years which will enhance the parents’ ability to fill the role of primary nurturer and educator for their child. They maintain on-going contact with families and work to integrate services of all EHS components (health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education and resource referral) into the family setting. In addition, Home Visitors work directly with the parent to plan group socializations twice per month to benefit both parent and child.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in another area with a CDA Infant and Toddler Certificate or Home Visitor CDA or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in another area with completion of CDA Certificate (infant and toddler) or Home Visitor CDA within 2 years of employment
  • Background check / fingerprinting
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid or enrollment in courses within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Initial health exam required for all EHS employees at employee’s expense within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Experience:

  • 1 year working with parents of infants or toddlers preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Education

  1. Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits with each family.
  2. Provide support in parent and child activities that encourages developmentally appropriate activities for the changing needs of infants and toddlers.
  3. Foster a relationship with parents that emphasizes the role of the parent as their child’s first teacher.
  4. Provide bi-monthly socialization for infants and toddlers and their primary care givers.
  5. Integrate all Head Start components into all daily aspects of the position.
  6. Develop and utilize weekly goals and lesson plans which reflect both mandated elements and parental and cultural influences and which promote the social emotional, physical and cognitive development of Head Start children.
  7. Individualized one-to-one and group activities to reflect the unique needs and strength of parents and children in the group.
  8. Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parent engagement.
  9. Develop and utilize teaching methods and materials for use in the home.
  10. Plan and facilitate group meetings which provide education and information on current Head Start policy and curriculum development.
  11. Maintain accurate written and electronic records.
  12. Maintain all curriculum, paperwork and files necessary to comply with contract service an federal, state and municipal funding agencies.
  13. Prepare teaching materials and supplies to support daily plans.
  14. Complete developmental assessments for children throughout the year.

Health and Safety

  1. Coordinate with parents to ensure, well-child exams, immunizations, health screenings and nutrition assessments are complete and necessary follow up occurs.
  2. Communicate frequently with other staff and parents; serve as liaison among medical and social services in the community; act as advocate for Head Start families.
  3. During group socialization, in collaboration with the parent, supervise and monitor children at all times to ensure a safe environment. This includes the physical ability to monitor and move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others.
  4. Adhere to all Head Start Performance Standards.
  5. Monitor children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities.
  6. Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed.
  7. Promote and maintain health and safety at all times.
  8. Assure that all equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
  9. Monitor the use of supplies and equipment.

Program Compliance

  1. Complete family partnership agreements, developmental screenings and all other required assessments with families in a timely manner.
  2. Implement the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and provide accommodations that support the identified goals.
  3. Assist with recruiting and enrolling eligible families in the program.
  4. Assist with coordinating medical, dental visits and other community needs identified by the families, including transporting family member when necessary.
  5. Review each child’s goals and write comprehensive individual plans designed to promote current learning and attend to nutritional, health, and social issues.
  6. Maintain accurate written/electronic records including health information, assessments, IFSP documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations, and other required forms.
  7. Maintain program compliance (TDFPS, COSA, EHS).
  8. Maintain all curriculum, paperwork, and files necessary to comply with contract service an federal, state and municipal funding agencies.
  9. Enter all pertinent documentation into Child Plus including home visit documentation, attendance at group socialization, etc.

  1. Create and maintain respectful partnerships with families.
  2. Assist and support families in locating resources and scheduling appointments with community resources that best meet their needs.
  3. Meet regularly with consultants and community collaborators to assure quality services.
  4. Attend meetings, staffing, training, and professional development activities as appropriate.
  5. Maintain a positive and professional attitude and attire.
  6. Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  7. Provide adequate notice to Coordinator on time off requests.
  8. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor which affect program quality.
  9. Maintain excellent punctuality and attendance.
  10. Provide and maintain quality customer service.

Other

  1. Drive to family home to deliver health, educational, nutritional and child growth and development information to parents via weekly meetings.
  2. Comfortably lift and carry children up to 35 lbs.
  3. Participate in curriculum and planned activities with children and parents.
  4. Work with supporting technology.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
