Terms of Employment:

11 months/204 days per year. Salary is on the Instructional Support Pay Grade IS2 on the EISD Compensation Plan at an hourly rate of $13.52

 

This position is grant-funded; therefore, continuation of employment is contingent upon available grant funds.

 

Primary Purpose:

Early Head Start Teacher 2 has direct responsibility for providing quality safe and responsive care of children ages 6 weeks to 3 years, enrolled in the Early Head Start Program in accordance with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFSP), Health and Human Services Commission Child Care Licensing, Early Head Start, and Edgewood ISD standards. Demonstrate early education leadership by developing and implementing appropriate learning opportunities and lesson plans to meet individual needs of all children.

 

Qualifications:
Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency
  • CDA Infant and Toddler Certificate or
  • Two Years’ Experience Working with Infants and/or Toddlers and Completion of CDA Certificate (infant and toddler) within 2 years of employment
  • Background check / fingerprinting
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid or enrollment in courses within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Initial health exam required for all EHS employees at employee’s expense within thirty (30) days of employment

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Education

  1. Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum
  2. Establish weekly goals and lesson plans
  3. Adapt curriculum to meet individual goals for children
  4. Maintain accurate written and electronic records
  5. Utilize Ages and Stages and other instruments to establish child focused goals
  6. Maintain all curriculum, paperwork and files necessary to comply with contract service an federal, state and municipal funding agencies
  7. Prepare classroom materials and supplies to support daily plans; change materials in learning centers as needed
  8. Complete developmental assessments for children three times a year
  9. Interact with parents respectfully, work to build partnerships and welcome them into the classroom at all times

 Health and Safety

  1. Supervise the classroom on an ongoing basis to monitor safety, developmentally appropriate activities and social and emotional, cognitive and physical abilities of children.
  2. Adhere to all Head Start Performance Standards
  3. Monitors children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities;
  4. Supervise and monitor children at all times
  5. Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed;
  6. Conduct daily playground check
  7. Conduct daily child checks;
  8. Maintain EHS Child Ratio of 1:4 at all times:
  9. Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment;
  10. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
  11. Ensure proper storage of toothbrushes and nap time mats
  12. Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur
  13. Monitor the use of supplies and equipment in the classroom

 Program Compliance

  1. Conduct two home visits per year for each Early Head Start child in class
  2. Complete two parent conferences to review child progress with parents
  3. Ensure infants and toddlers are taken outdoors twice daily, weather permitting
  4. Maintain program compliance (TDFPS, COSA, EHS)
  5. Maintain daily infant report for each child
  6. Maintain all curriculum, paperwork and files necessary to comply with contract service an federal, state and municipal funding agencies
  7. Receive and report daily attendance on each child

Professionalism

  1. Assist program in complying with TDFPS minimum standards for childcare and other contract services
  2. Maintain a positive and professional attitude and attire
  3. Attend staff meetings and trainings
  4. Provide adequate notice to Coordinator on time off requests
  5. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor which affect program quality
  6. Maintain excellent punctuality and attendance
  7. Provide and maintain quality customer service in the classroom and with parents

 Other

  1. Comfortably lift and carry children up to 35 lbs.
  2. Feed, nurture and play with children, change diapers
  3. Participate in curriculum and planned activities with children and parents
  4. Work with supporting technology
  5. Assume duties of assistant teacher, floater, or general maintenance if needed to maintain quality service
  6. Perform other duties as assigned

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
