Terms of Employment:
11 months/204 days per year. Salary is on the Instructional Support Pay Grade IS1 on the EISD Compensation Plan at an hourly rate of $11.22.
This position is grant-funded; therefore, continuation of employment is contingent upon available grant funds.
Primary Purpose
Head Start Floaters provide direct classroom support to ensure that two teachers are present in the classroom at all times in the Early Head Start Program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
- Background check / fingerprinting
- CDA for Infant and Toddler (may be completed within 9 months of employment)
- CPR and First Aid or enrollment in courses within ninety (90) days of employment
- Initial health exam required for all HS employees at employee’s expense within thirty (30) days of employment
Major Responsibilities and Duties
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
- Provide in classroom support to maintain program ratio
- Follow lesson plans
- Assist in maintaining student records and provide feedback as requested by teacher
- Conduct instructional activities outlined by the teacher and work with students to develop skills
- Assist with monitoring and supervision of students, instruction and activities
- Assist with maintaining a safe, neat and orderly classroom
- Provide assistance to substitute teachers, when applicable
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom learning areas
- Assist in setting up environment (indoor/outdoor) activities for the day
- Use developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate activities with groups and individuals
- Observe and record behaviors of children to assist Early Head Start teachers on child’s strengths and areas to grow
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Interact and monitor children at all times to ensure a safe environment. This includes the physical ability to monitor and move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection in order to insure their safety or the safety of others.
- Adhere to all Head Start Performance Standards
- Monitor children for signs of child abuse and report incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities;
- Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed;
- Complete required annual training;
- Maintain a safe and healthy classroom and school environment;
- Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
- Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur
- Sanitize classroom materials, furniture, equipment and laundry

- Assist with providing breaks and other classroom needs as requested

- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor which effect program quality
