Terms of Employment: 
12 months/ 234 days per year.  Salary is at the Auxiliary Pay Plan Aux 4 on the EISD Compensation Plan.  Entry level rate of pay is $15.77/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.
 
Primary Purpose:
Works on minor construction projects and handles heavy equipment operations to ensure that all designated areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and attractive manner. Maintains fencing, decking, walkways, asphalt and similar projects. Handles welding and other construction related projects.


NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant.

 

Qualifications:
Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
  • Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)

Experience:

  • Two (2) years in ground maintenance

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must possess good communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty machinery
  • Ability to handle all construction related equipment, e.g., cement, welding, asphalt and carpentry tools
  • Ability to read blueprints

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Ensure all fences are installed and maintained in optimum condition
  2. Maintains and/or replaces asphalt driveways, parking areas, walkways, playgrounds, irrigation systems and parking lots
  3. Operates heavy equipment, e.g., cranes, backhoe, dump truck, etc for multiple departmental use
  4. Observes safety precautions in operating equipment
  5. Ensures that the assigned tools, equipment and vehicles are maintained in operable condition
  6. Assist Grounds crew with landscaping when needed
  7. Keep accurate records on supplies, materials used, and the amount of time required for each job
  8. Performs other duties, works irregular hours and responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed
  9. Other duties as assigned – in the best interest of the district.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Equipment Used:
Backhoe, Dump Truck, Skid Loader Bobcat, Air Compressor, Trencher, Jack Hammer, Tamper, Generator, Maintainer, Welder, Rock Saw, High Pressure Washer, Drilling truck, Mini Excavator, Chain Saws, Pole Saws, Hedges, and other grounds equipment.
 
Working Conditions:
Physical and Environment/ Demands:

Strenuous walking, standing and/or climbing. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without assistance. Primarily outside tasks; exposure to extreme temperatures, possible exposure to chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and frequent noisy work environment.  Frequent district-wide travel.
