Description

Terms of Employment: 12 months/ 234 days per year. Salary is at the Auxiliary Pay Plan - Pay Grade Aux 5 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $17.82/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.

 

Primary Purpose:
Handles general repairs and installations in multiple trades to include carpentry, masonry, drywall and painting. Perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district.  Maintains buildings and furniture in an attractive and safe condition.   Handles rough-ins and detailed finish projects.

 

NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant.

 

Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record and must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility
  • Good driving record

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years experience in building trades

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools

  • Knowledge in application of finishing materials, e.g., paint, varnish, lacquer, stain etc
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
  • Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations   
  • Ability to work independently

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Maintenance and Repair

  1. Completes work using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.

  2. Selects material and hardware and makes time and materials estimates.
  3. Fabricates, repairs, and replaces doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, etc.
  4. Constructs and repairs outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
  5. Pours and repairs concrete, stucco, brick, cement and masonry.
  6. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer and/or other finishes to interiors and exteriors of buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  7. Replaces, repairs, and finishes fixtures, woodwork, etc.
  8. Assists with the installations and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.
  9. Maintains accurate records on material and labor used.
  10. Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  11. Inspects jobs upon completion, ensures areas are clean, and removes debris as needed.
  12. Works with building principles and supervisors to complete projects.
  13. Responds to emergency calls as needed.
  14. Initiates and processes all paperwork for requisitioning material.
  15. Maintains a clean and orderly vehicle.
  16. Other duties as assigned - in the best interest of the district.

 

Safety

  1. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

  2. Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  3. Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  4. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  5. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  6. Attends safety meetings.

Other

  1. Works irregular hours and responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Ability to provide supervisory guidance to apprentices.

 

Equipment Used:

Power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, redial arm saw, nail gun, powder actuated gun, compressor, power lift, scaffolding, paint sprayers, cement tools other power equipment, measuring devices, hand tools associated with multiple trades and light truck or van, etc.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/ Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and reaching, heavy lifting and carrying.  Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals.  Frequent district-wide travel.
