Terms of Employment: 12 months/ 234 days per year.  Entry level rate of pay is $12.71/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.

 

Primary Purpose:
Maintains a clean and healthy school/office environment for students and staff. Oversees work schedules, training, supply orders and equipment repairs. Submits work order request to appropriate personnel for processing. Assist administrators with evaluations of subordinate personnel. Attends staff, safety and similar meetings as required.

 

NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant, before continuing within the process towards possible employment. 


Qualifications:
Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency), preferred

Experience:

  • 3 years experience as regular custodian, preferred

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assigned to second or third shift hours as required.
  2. Lead custodial cleaning team.
  3. Ensure work site is very well kept and inviting. 
  4. Complies with district cleaning standards and procedures. 
  5. Assures all subordinate staff operate in a safe, efficient and effective manner. 
  6. Assures all security measures are enforced. 
  7. Communicates with appropriate administrators for assignments and responsibilities. 
  8. Submits material and repairs request in a timely manner. 
  9. Reports all safety, health and security concerns to the appropriate administrator.
  10. Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  11. Other duties as assigned – in the best interest of the district.

 

Qualities of Effective Head Custodian:

  1. Ability to organize and lead an effective custodial team 
  2. Provides supervision, training and instruction for two to six custodians 
  3. Assigns custodians job duties as required · Develops cleaning schedules 
  4. Determines supplies and re-order levels 
  5. Must have the ability to use the following equipment Vacuums, Buffers, Ladders, and associated janitorial tools 
  6. Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their proper use 
  7. Must have good written & communication skills 
  8. Must be able to read and write directions and complete forms and reports

Complete work according to established work schedule/Frequent: standing, walking, climbing (stairs, ladder, scaffold, or ramps), stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking clearly and distinguishing colors Frequent: lifting, carrying and lowering light – under 15 pounds. Intermittent: lifting, carrying and lowering moderate – 15-44 pounds. Occasional: lifting, carrying and lowering heavy – 45 pounds and over./Must be able to work inside and outside in temperature extremes (hot and cold), low or intense illumination, vibration, work on slippery or uneven surfaces, biological exposure (insects, molds, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, bodily fluids, etc.), chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.), electrical hazards, sunlight exposure, work with hands in water, work around machines with moving parts, may work alone, may experience unusual fatigue factors, may work prolonged or irregular hours during certain times of the year such as days, nights and possible weekends.
