About Gardendale Early Learning Program
Edgewood ISD has entered into an exciting partnership with Pre-K 4 SA that promises to transform Gardendale Elementary
School into a PK-2nd elementary school over the next three years. This partnership commenced at the beginning of the 2019
2020 school year. We are currently seeking interested teachers for multiple K – 2nd grades for the 2020-2021 school year.

Terms of Employment:
11 months/204 days per year. Starting teacher salary for 2020-2021 is $57,776 with Bachelor's degree; and additional stipend of $1,523.00 for Master's degree, with additional consideration for directly related experience.
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university in early education or a related field
- 30 hours of college course credit in early childhood education, or agreement to complete the Pre-K 4 SA Child Development Associate (CDA) program by December 31, 2020.
- Valid teaching certification with required endorsements to teach early childhood education from any State’s Educator Certification Department and the ability to obtain certification in Texas
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Valid Texas EC-3 teaching certification.
- Successful experience working with children from culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse backgrounds.
- Spanish language proficiency.
Experience:
- At least one year student teaching or approved internship
Required Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of teaching in early childhood education
- Knowledge of early childhood curriculum and activities
- Knowledge of theory and practice of early childhood development.
- Skill in use of classroom and instructional equipment.
- Ability to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program for young children.
- Ability to assist children with meals and snacks.
- Ability to assist children with gross motor skills inside Center and in outdoor playgrounds.
- Ability to conduct and participate in current or long-range planning projects.
- Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior using developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose best solution and solve problems.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, including sitting on the floor and getting up from the floor without assistance.
- Ability to work an extended year contract (204) days.
Preferred special knowledge/skills:
- Knowledge and experience with the HighScope approach.
- Knowledge of and experience with The Project Approach.
- Knowledge of and experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Knowledge of and experience with the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).
- Knowledge of and successful experience in the Edgewood ISD community.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Implements early age curriculum that is supportive of child development.
- Creates a language and numbers-rich classroom environment that sparks children's imaginations.
- Plans and delivers engaging lessons, according to students' needs that showcase high quality teaching and learning.
- Assesses developmental needs of children and works to incorporate individual students learning, physical, social, and emotional needs.
- Presents academic content through a variety of engaging and rigorous instructional strategies.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of all students.
- Engages students in the learning process; plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment, including instructional media.
- Assesses student progress on objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents and administration; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Directs instructional assistants to provide an effective classroom program and address needs of individual students.
- Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
- Communicates regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, newsletters, electronic communication such as a parent portal, and/or individual parent conferences.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Gardendale Early Program curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct using guidance skills appropriate for young children.
- Works with other staff and parents to address the needs of the whole child, including emotional, academic, physical, social, and nutritional needs.
- Participates in all staff meetings, including those scheduled after-school and during the summer.
- Participates in all professional development activities, including those scheduled after-school and during the summer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) in PreK and Kinder classrooms.
