Terms of Employment:

10 months/187 days per year. Salary is on the Administrative Program Pay Plan AP2 on the EISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Salary range is $50,140 - $59,690 with additional consideration for directly related experience.

 

This position will also have an additional annualized stipend of $2,000 for duties and responsibilities associated with the ACE model.

 

Background:

Perales Elementary School is embarking upon an exciting venture beginning in the 2020-2021 school year through implementation of the ACE model.  Staff at Perales ES will engage in on-going professional growth and continuing educational opportunities offered through the program.  Students at Perales will be engaged in high quality instruction, strong social emotional learning programs, and intentional coursework to prepare them for success beyond elementary school.

 

The aim of this partnership is to hire the most outstanding educators for Perales.  We will utilize the Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) model for school turnaround to create an exemplary team of educators focused on success for all students.

Primary Purpose:

Perform casework service to help students at-risk of dropping out of school resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process. Function as part of the pupil services team to formulate plans with the school, student, and parents.

 

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as a master social worker granted by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners

 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills
  • Knowledge and skill in casework methods
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
  • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
  • Awareness and ability to access community resources
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in social work

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Social Work

  1. Conduct group and individual consultation sessions to enhance social development of students and provide peer support in accepting responsibility for their actions, overcoming crisis, resolving conflict, improving attendance, decision-making skills, etc.
  2. Work collaboratively with faculty on a student support team addressing social and emotional needs of at- risk students.
  3. Coordinate with community organizations to access evidence-based resources for at-risk students such as adult advocates, academic support services, mentoring, tutoring or services to improve social skills in the classroom.
  4. Facilitate communication between school personnel and students and parents
  5. Implement related evidence-based strategies designed to prevent at risk students from dropping out of school that are documented in a campus needs assessment and campus plan.

 Assessment

  1. Conduct home visitations to engage parents in improving at-risk student academic achievement
  2. Identify and explore causes of students’ dysfunction as it relates to the home, school, and community.
  3. Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students according to district procedures.

Consultation

  1. Assist school personnel in helping students explore alternative education programs and career counseling.
  2. Conduct related consultation with instructional staff regarding student strengths and needs in the academic program.
  3. Consult with parents regarding their children’s academic performance, behavior, and needs.

Student Management

  1. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
  2. Support campus goals of prevention to maintain a healthy and safe school environment.

Program Management

  1. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  2. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of social work services and make changes based on the findings.
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  4. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  5. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  6. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.

Communication

  1. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  2. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular districtwide travel to student homes and multiple work locations as assigned. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
