Description | Primary Purpose:
Assist in facilitating the efficient operation of the warehouse and distribution of food and supplies for the
Child Nutrition Department. Coordinate assigned duties and activities.
NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) or higher
- Valid Texas Drivers Class C License with good driving record
- Current Texas Food Handlers Permit or eligible to obtain within 2 weeks of employment
- Professional Standard Requirement 6 hours annually
Experience:
- Warehouse and Inventory experience, preferred
- Forklift experience, preferred
- Pallet Jack / Hand Jack
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Good communications and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to read, write, and understand verbal instructions in English
- Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Ability to read supply requisitions and perform basic arithmetic
Major Responsibilities:
Receiving
- Verifying accuracy of shipments by counting, weighing, or measuring items and comparing size, weight, description, and code numbers with information on invoice or packing slip and purchase orders; record any discrepancies or damage
- Open crates and other containers using hand tools to unpack items received. Inspect shipments for damage defects.
- Understands proper food storage and rotation including FIFO
Inventory
- Track and maintain warehouse inventory, which includes physical inventory.
- Move inventory to various locations manually and by operating mechanical equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and handcart.
- Sort and store items according to established procedures
Distribution
- Pull, verify, and load trucks for delivery.
- Drive truck / van to various locations to safely and correctly deliver and or/pick up food, equipment, supplies and/or documents.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and obtain authorized signatures for items requested.
- Load and unload delivery truck by hand or use of dolly or lift.
- Transfer food, supplies, equipment and staff to school cafeterias or other related locations
- Maintain and keep all vehicles clean.
Safety
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles according to prescribed safety procedures
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, carrying, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor
- immediately.
- Keep daily temperature reading of freezers and walk in coolers. Report any equipment malfunctions immediately
- Maintain a clean, safe work area.
Other
- Participates in related professional organizations, training in-services to keep abreast of innovative techniques for food service operations
- Assist with general maintenance of school kitchens/cafeterias and Child Nutrition Warehouse/Office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Uses forklift, hand tools, ladders, dollies, pallets, battery chargers, platform truck, 15 passenger van, freezer truck, copier, fax machine.
Working Conditions:

Continual walking, standing, climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching; heavy lifting; up to 50lbs alone, and carrying.Work with hazardous materials. Work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects and vehicles; work outside and inside, exposure to dampness, humidity and dust.Inherent hazards and injuries due to excessive lifting, carrying, stooping and reaching.
