Brentwood STEAM School of Innovation is designed to provide students with an innovative and collaborative learning experience that combines rigorous coursework, problem-based learning, and makerspace opportunities. Focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) instruction, and a school-wide literacy framework, students will explore, invent, collaborate, and create as they design solutions to real-world problems and choose their pathway for high school, college, and beyond.
This exciting program begins in during the 2019-2020 school year with the inaugural 6th grade class, and will grow into 7th and 8th grades in subsequent school years. As part of Edgewood ISD’s STEAM innovation zone, students will matriculate into John F. Kennedy High School with future opportunities for life-changing partnerships and internships in STEAM-related fields.
Terms of Employment: 11 months/ 202 days per year. Salary is on the Teacher Salary Schedule on the EISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Starting teacher salary for 2019-2020 is $55,901.00 (202 contract) with Bachelor's degree; and additional stipend of $1,523.00 for Master's degree, with additional consideration for directly related experience..

Brentwood STEAM School of Innovation Teachers will be responsible for accelerating their students’ learning and ensuring that they reach their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university
- Valid certification in the following: Art (All level)
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned
- Integrate technology in classroom instruction using 21st century fluencies
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations in the school environment
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills
- Utilize effective data-based problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of urban methodology and effective practices
- Demonstrate effective collaboration skills
- Use effective strategies for differentiating instruction
- Exhibit knowledge of standards-based curriculum
- Exhibit knowledge of special education, dyslexia, RtI, 504, and ESL services to students
Experience:
- At least one year student teaching or approved internship.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Fiscal Management
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress of at-risk students who are not responding to intervention.
- Attend scheduled meetings and parent conferences.
- Assist the school's curriculum personnel in providing services to special populations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise students and monitor work flow of instructional assistants, if applicable
Professional Development
- Participate in staff development activities to meet the needs of innovated school.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Continue professional growth and strengthen professional teaching knowledge, skills, and strategies through workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work.
- Provide demonstration lessons for faculty and staff
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities and Focused Planning Sessions
