Terms of Employment:
10 months/ 183 days per year. Salary is at Instructional Support Pay Grade IS1 at an hourly rate of $11.00 or IS2 at $11.99, with verification of 48 college hours, on the EISD Compensation Plan. Annual salary range is based upon directly related experience.
Primary Purpose: This position will assist individual students and small groups in academic content areas as needed. Under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.
NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant.
Qualifications: Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) and
- Minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college/university or
- Passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test or
- Hold No Child Left Behind (NCLB) certificate
- Be Eligible to obtain a Paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification
Experience
- Work related experience with students (church-related schools, private schools, day camps, youth groups, licensed day care centers or similar experiences)
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals in a professional manner.
- Ability to assist students with academic work at the academic grade level appropriate for the assignment.
- Ability to work as a member of a team to provide assistance to students.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in maintaining student records and provide feedback as requested by teacher.
- Conduct instructional activities outlined by the teacher and work with students to develop skills.
- Assist with supervision of students, instruction or activities that may fall within or outside the classroom environment.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, neat and orderly classroom.
- Follow District guidelines in maintaining classroom management, discipline and confidentiality.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Participate in required staff development, faculty meetings, special events and District sponsored activities.
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist students with reading, writing, testing or any other preparation or activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned
. Mental/Physical/Environmental Factors:
- Lifts/Carries 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance
- Pushing/Pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Continual walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions
- May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others
