Terms of Employment:

12 months/ 234 days per year. Compensation is at Auxiliary Pay Plan AUX1 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $10.50/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.

 

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the timely removal of unsightly graffiti and the maintenance of safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.

 

NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency), preferred
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record and must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility

Experience:

  • Work related experience with groundskeeper duties

 

Special Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to communicate (verbally).
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to operate riding or power mower; power tools, and hand tools.
  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, reliable, and demonstrate solid organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be physically able to perform tasks required; heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and using pressure sprayer equipment.

 

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Graffiti removal; determining the best process (pressure wash, graffiti wipes or paint over), based on the affected surface.
  2. Assist with other maintenance issues and special projects as required.
  3. Mow and detail all district grounds.
  4. Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.
  5. Plant shrubs and vegetation.
  6. Water grounds and apply fertilizer.
  7. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
  8. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Safety:

  1. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc..
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  4. Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
  5. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventative maintenance as needed.
  6. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.

 

Equipment Used:

  • Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, garden and hand tools, posthold auger, and aerator. 
  • Light truck or van

 

Working Conditions:

Employee will work outdoors each day, therefore must be able to work in all types of weather conditions. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles, as well as around chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Continuous walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Frequent district-wide travel.
