Salary
- Degreed-Certified Teachers (Valid Texas Certification): $105.00 Daily Rate; $115.00 Long Term Assignment
- Degreed (Bachelors/Masters), not Certified: $95.00 Daily Rate; $105.00 Long Term Assignment
- Associates Degree: $85.00 Daily Rate; $95.00 Long Term Assignment
- High School Diploma and/or GED: $75.00 Daily Rate; $85.00 Long Term Assignment
- An additional $15.00 per day will be added to daily rate of pay for any Substitute who accepts and fulfills a secondary school assignment
Primary Purpose:
Deliver instruction, provide support to staff/students, and perform related job duties/responsibilities during the absence of the regular employee. Ensure the safety of students, materials and school equipment. Substitute teachers should follow the regular teachers' lesson plans, and maintain discipline in the classroom at a level in which learning can take place. The responsibilities of the Substitute Teacher should be carried out in a climate of respect and caring for the students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
- Must read, speak and write English well enough to carry out the teachers’ lesson plans and interact effectively with students
NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant, before continuing within the process towards possible employment.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of subject matter or skills to be taught
- Knowledge of effective teaching practices and instructional strategies
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management and enact firm and fair disciplinary procedures
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of students in a professional manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct instructional activities outlined by teacher.
- Assist in maintaining student records and provide feedback as requested by regular teacher.
- Provide supervision of students with instruction or activities that may fall within or outside the classroom environment.
- Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
- Follow district guidelines in maintaining classroom management, discipline and confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including those not specifically stated in the teacher absence announcement.
Special Education Assignments:
- Supervise teacher assistant’s duties, which may include feeding, toileting, hygiene, positioning, transferring to and from wheelchair.
- May provide assistance to other staff using crisis intervention techniques and other behavior modification procedures.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions/Other:
Attendance and punctuality at work on time are essential functions of the job; Prolonged standing and walking. Maintain emotional control under stress; Work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Requires some bending, reaching, standing, kneeling and squatting.
