Terms of Employment:
10 months/190 days per year. Salary is on the Teacher Salary Schedule on the EISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Starting salary for 2019-2020 is $52,580.00 with Bachelor's degree; and additional stipend of $1,523.00 for Master's degree, with additional consideration for directly related experience.
 

Primary Purpose:
The School Nurse Team Leader is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating school health services for an assigned cluster of schools.  The School Nurse Team Leader identifies the health care needs of the student population, ensures the availability of health resources, plans and implements services to help meet those needs. The School Nurse Team Leader will also assess and evaluate the effectiveness of services, health care plans, and collaborates with a variety of school system and professional disciplines to enhance the educational process and promote an optimal level of wellness for students, families, and staff.

 
Qualifications:
Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited university or Associates of Arts degree in Nursing an accredited college or Diploma from an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid Registered Nurse license from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners
  • CPR Certification required prior to start date

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience that would include one (1) year experience as school nurse
  • Must have the ability to travel to different schools throughout the day

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide direct and indirect supervision for LVN nursing staff assigned.
  2. Assure that school health services and activities are appropriately documented according to nursing standards.
  3. Serve as the health care consultant for students and their parents/families.
  4. Provide professional health leadership to administrators and school staff.
  5. Train and monitor staff who provide health services, including delegated procedures, the administration of medication to students and other health related mandated activities.
  6. Direct, monitor and evaluate campus nurses (LVN), aides, assistants, volunteers, unlicensed and/or licensed personnel assigned to the school health program.
  7. Coordinate and participate in the review and implementation of school health services, policies, and procedures.
  8. Implement communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school.
  9. Participate in development of the school’s emergency health and crisis plans.
  10. Develop individualized plans for students with identified health conditions, in collaboration with campus nurse, parents and health care providers.
  11. Substitute for campus nurse for absences and vacancies as needed.
  12. Make home visits when indicated.
  13. Participate in health screenings, parent conferences, IEP and 504 initial meetings and as needed.
  14. Maintain current licensure in nursing and related certifications as required.
  15. Maintain and improve professional skills.
  16. Job performance may include physical activities such as walking, standing, lifting, and/or transfer up to 40 pounds.
  17. Perform other duties and tasks as determined necessary and assigned.

Supervisory Duties:

Supervise and Direct LVN(s) in clinic procedures and responsibilities according to district policy.

 

Equipment Used:
Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent phone calls from other staff members, some evening or weekend events or request. Frequent district travel; exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
