Terms of Employment: 183 days per year. Salary is at the Auxiliary Pay Plan Aux1 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $10.50/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.
Primary Purpose:
Rides school bus & other passenger vehicles and helps driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of all students.
NOTE: Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant, before continuing within the process towards possible employment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency), preferred
Experience:
Special Knowledge/ Skills:
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment.
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
- Must be able to understand instructions and communicate in basic English.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Management
- Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
- Escort students across street to/from curb.
- Assist special needs students individually as needed.
- Secure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safe transport of students.
- Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to appropriate campus administrator and submit Bus Incident Reports, as required.
- Work cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the bus.
- Maintain good rapport with students, parents, guardians and campus administration
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance.
- Daily workplace attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
Routes and Schedules
- Become familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to driver.
- Maintain a daily route schedule/sheet.
- Maintain and submit a monthly roll call/attendance log.
Safety
- Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
- Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.
- Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, securing, assisting students, etc.
Other
- Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education offices.
- Help driver keep bus clean.
- Work irregular hours as needed.
- Other duties as assigned - in the best interest of the district.

None.
Equipment Used:
Wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment, two-way radio.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; Occasional lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or more. Work outside, inside; work in and around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, etc)
