Description

Primary Purpose:

Assist the teacher in preparation, management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.

Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

 

Job Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution

Fourty-eight (48) completed semester college hours from an accredited college/university or 

have passed the TABE test.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Must be able to read, write and speak Spanish (required)

 

 

Must possess or be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification and must obtain a national criminal background check through the SBEC website within 30 days of hire.

 

In accordance with the HEAD START Act, teaching assistants nationawide in center-based programs must have:

  • At least a child development associate  (CDA) credential;
  • Enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree; or
  • Enrolled in a child development associate (CDA) credential program to be completed no later than September 30, 2013; and
  • As Per Performance Standard 1304.52(j)(1): Prior to employment start date, each staff memeber must have an initial health examination that includes screening for tuberculosis and biennial re-examination at the end of the staff memer's second year of employment. This requirement is implemented consistent with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act adn section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • First Aid and CPR preferred

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in maintaining student records and probide feedback as requested by teacher

Conduct instructional activities outlined by teacher and work with students to develop various skills

Assist with supervision of students, instruction or activities that may fall within or outside the classroom environment

Assist with maintaining a safe, neat and orderly classroom

Follow district guidelines in maintaining classroom management, discipline and confidentiality

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers

Participate in required staff development, faculty meeting, special events, and district sponored activities

Assist with lifting, handling, feeding, changing, toileting, and other needs

Perform other duties as assigned.
