PRIMARY PURPOSE:       The ESL Instructional Interventionist is a certified teacher who has expertise instructing ESL/LEP students at the secondary level.  The ESL Instructional Interventionist has knowledge and skills in strategies for teaching content to second language learners. The Interventionist will report to school principal and Bilingual/ESL director. This person will instruct small groups/individual ESL/LEP students for the major part of the instructional week.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:            Bachelor’s Degree

                                            Valid Texas Teaching Certificate: Generalist 4-8 with ESL certificate or endorsement

                                    

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrate instructing LEP students using effective ESL teaching practices and strategies.

Instruct individual students or small groups of ESL/LEP students in Language Arts and Reading at the appropriate grade level.

Monitor student academic achievement based on assessments.

Meet with LA grade level teams to review assessment data and to assess outcomes of goals.

Develop intervention plans based on TELPAS, STARR, and benchmark assessment results.

Serve as a resource for content area teachers in identifying appropriate instructional strategies to improve student achievement of English language learners.

Establish, with direction from the LAT team and Bilingual/ESL department, daily time periods for instruction, with additional time allocated when instructing recent immigrants.

Knowledge of Language Arts, ESL TEKS and LA TAKS objectives.

Attend monthly Lead ESL meetings/trainings at the district level to increase knowledge on the ESL program.

Attend staff development training as assigned.
