Terms of Employment:

10 months/187 days per year. Salary is on the Teacher Salary Schedule on the EISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Starting teacher salary for 2017-2018 is $50,000.00 (with Bachelor's) and $50,507.00 (with Master's), with additional consideration for directly related experience.

 

Primary Purpose:
The Adapted Physical Education Teacher under the supervision of the Instructional Special Education Coordinator and the Director of Special Education, is responsible for teaching physical education to disabled students, ages 3-21. This position involves frequent local travel to schools that are assigned for direct instruction on the child’s home campus.


Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Physical Education, all level preferred
Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Special Education, preferred
CAPE Certification in Adapted Physical education, preferred

 

 

Knowledge/Skills:
Basic to advanced computer skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assess physically and cognitively challenged students in order to provide them with appropriate opportunities to participate in adapted physical education activities. 
  • Consult with regular physical education teachers to facilitate inclusion.
  • Provide motor assessments on individual students.
  • Write Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for individual students. 
  • Provide instructional strategies to remediate identified motoric weakness. 
  • Assist in staff development presentations to paraprofessionals, teachers and administrators about adapted physical education program.
  • Serve on assigned committees within the Special Education Department.
  • Complete all reports, lesson plans, and file maintenance as required.
  • Work in collaboration with Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist to develop individual student goals.
  • Assist in equipment management for district-wide inventory.
  • Attend or report student progress to annual ARD Committee for individual students.
  • Assist in special clinics or projects as directed, (ex: Edgewood Special Olympics events).
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.


Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations are assigned; frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, heavy lifting, and moderate carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students and physical disabilities
