Purpose:

 

The Edgewood Independent School District's Student Mentor Program is designated with the belief that Residents, Community, and Business Organizations play an important role in school support and through student mentoring can provide students with a positive role model who will encourage and motivate them to succeed in school.

 

Goal:

 

Provide striving students with a mentor who will serve as a positive adult role model and create an environment that promotes student success.

 

Types of Mentoring:

 

One-on-One Mentoring - A mentor is assigned to one student.  The mentor works with the student during the school day.  The session may involve discussion sessions, reading sessions, and school work or instructional assistance.

 

Small Group Mentoring - A mentor is assigned to a group of students.  The mentor works with the small group during the school day.  The session may involve instructional academic support, such as reading with students.
